TILE CARE & MAINTENANCE
Tile, whether glazed ceramic or porcelain, should be maintained on a regular and frequent basis to prevent build-up of soil, grease, residue, soap detergents, sealers, dampness, liquids, etc., to keep the surface clean and lessen slippery conditions.
Glazed ceramic and porcelain tiles require minimal maintenance. Either can be cleaned with clear water and/or a pH neutral liquid cleaner. Follow with a clear water rinse and wipe dry to prevent film formation. As with most porcelains, spilled liquids may stain light-colored products if not promptly removed. Neither sealing nor acid cleaning is recommended for any glazed ceramic or porcelain tile.
1. Polished porcelain tiles require very little maintenance and are easy to clean, especially for floors covered in larger-format tiles, which have fewer grout lines to consider. Start by vacuuming the area or using a dust mop to sweep up any surface debris. For wall and floor tiles, wipe them over with a soft-headed mop using warm water and tile cleaner or mild detergent.
2. Textured tiles bring a nice sense of depth and tactility to walls and floors, but when it comes to cleaning, they do require a little extra maintenance compared to smooth, polished versions. With the right tactics and level of upkeep, however, the job doesn’t have to be too labor intensive. For floors and walls, begin by removing surface dirt and dust with a vacuum or brush, then saturate the surface with a neutral cleaning solution and allow it to settle for 10 minutes. To finish, scrub the tiles with a soft-bristle brush, working in two directions to get into every crevice.
Procedure to clean Non-slip tile:
1. Wet the entire surface to be cleaned with water.
2. Sweep with a long bristled brush to wipe off any loose debris.
3. Sprinkle powdered form of cleaning agent with oxalic acid onto the wet floor. The wet floor will the cleaning agent to seep into the surface of the tiles.
4. Do not start scrubbing as soon as you sprinkle the cleaning agent on the tiles. Let it stay for 5-10 minutes.
5. After 5-10 minutes start brushing the floor with a long brush, for areas that have rust, or other stubborn stains you can use a short brush.
6. If you find more stubborn stains that do not come off easy apply more of the cleaning agent.
7. Use a wiper to remove water to the gutter.
8. Now dry the floor with a towel.
