What is color shade' and why?
1.What is ‘color shade’ and why?
Since the formula of raw materials is very complex and the firing process of ceramic and porcelain tiles is long, slight color difference of tiles output is unavoidable. Especially for tiles produced at different times, the color shade and color tone are always prone to subtle changes, which are related to changes in raw materials, measurement deviations in proportioning, firing temperatures, fluctuations in firing atmosphere, etc., and even climate changes. Even if it is the same style, including the same pattern and specifications, there may be certain color differences between products produced in different batches.
To record and number the tiles’ color difference, expressed by numbers or letters, this is called the ‘color shade’.
At present, there is no clear governmental standard for the color shade of ceramic and porcelain tiles. According to "GB/T 4100-2006 Ceramic Tiles", the factory must sort the tiles out of the kiln by "color shade", while professional factories will better control the color shades and maintain the stability of the color and tone of their production.
2. What is the difference between color shades and color variation?
Color shades refers to the color difference between one tile and another tile, while color variation is the pattern difference between the pieces of same tile.
Under normal circumstances, in an area of about several square meters, under appropriate and uniform light, same-color-shade tiles can not be seen their color difference. On the other hand, from the point of view of fashion trends, V2, V3 or V4 color variation of glazed tiles is more and more popular, which looks more natural as natural stone.
To sum up, it is normal for tiles to have color shades, because different batches may have some color difference. However, the color shades of the tiles is not a quality problem of the tiles themselves. Customers can pay attention to distinguishing the color shades and batches, as well as the color variation marked on the cartons.
